Emotional and Psychological Abuse: Threatens. Denies
access to spiritual traditions/events. Ridicules persona and
cultural values. Uses family members against them. Isolates.

Physical abuse: Hitting, punching, kicking, burning, any
bodily contact that causes harm.
Economic abuse: Withholding basic needs, using money to
control behavior, squandering elderly person’s money.

The Attorney General’s Office has a number of programs
designed to protect elderly citizens against those who prey upon
them. The Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section
serves as a strong advocate for elderly consumers who are
victimized by unfair and unscrupulous business practices. Visit

The Special Prosecutions and Criminal Justice Initiatives
Section, assists local law enforcement agencies in their
efforts to prevent and prosecute crimes against the elderly. The
Office’s Pro-Bono Program provides volunteer attorneys to
assist with preparing documents to facilitate end-of-life
decisions and estate distribution. In addition, the Health
Care Fraud section has jurisdiction to investigate
allegations of patient abuse and neglect in Ohio long-term care
facilities.
